It is with deep sadness we share the passing of Sylvia Madder a longtime member of Golfaround, which she joined in 1998. She was 87 years old. Sylvia was a huge supporter of Golfaround during her professional career and she also traveled with us and supported many of our events.
Sylvia was born in Heward, Saskatchewan. A beloved matriarch and cherished friend, Sylvia’s life was marked by her unwavering dedication to family, her zest for adventure, and her remarkable career accomplishments.
Her professional journey began in Regina and culminated in Calgary, where she proudly earned her Accounting designation (CA). Her career was a testament to her hard work and determination.
In 1961, Sylvia married James Madder, a partnership characterized by love and companionship that lasted until James’s passing in 2008. Although they did not have children, Sylvia’s influence was deeply felt by the many nieces and nephews in both the Madder and McElroy families. To them, she was far more than an aunt; she embodied the role of a grandparent and mother, providing guidance, support, and an abundance of love.
Athletically inclined, Sylvia embraced a life filled with activity. From her youth spent playing softball to her later passions for skiing and golfing, she reveled in the joy of movement and the outdoors. Following Jim’s passing, Sylvia transformed her predetermined bucket list into a vibrant tapestry of both sought-after destinations and unforgettable experiences. Her wanderlust culminated in a memorable cruise to Panama, which she embarked upon just days before her passing.
Sylvia’s legacy is enriched by the countless memories shared by those fortunate enough to know her. As a nurturing figure, she ensured that each member of her family felt valued and cared for in every aspect of their lives. Her spirit, kindness, and infectious laughter will be missed by all who had the privilege of crossing paths with this extraordinary woman.
