It’s 7:30am on Monday June 9th and we are off on our Mystery Bus Trip down the rabbit hole to who knows where and we can’t be late we have a very important date. The golf bags are stowed away and everyone has guessed where they think we are headed and we are settled in for another fun filled day.
We head North on the QE2, are we going to Wolfe Creek? Or maybe Lacombe? So many choices and only one guess. Time now to enjoy our Mimosas and a light breakfast as we will need our energy wherever we are going. We continue through Red Deer and low and behold we turn on Hwy 11, where on earth are we headed. After we pass Sylvan Lake we have a good idea that Rocky Mountain House is our destination or maybe we are going to veer off and go back to Sundre.
Around 10:30am we reach Pine Hills Golf Course in Rocky Mountain House and low and behold the Edmonton ladies are here too, what a great surprise. They too were surprised as they had left Edmonton not knowing where they were headed. The Mad Hatters Tee Party was off to a great start.
The golf was challenging and we did get a bit of weather to contend with but all in all we had a lot of fun. After our round we donned our mad hatter hats and what a great job everyone did, we had hats of all shapes, sizes and styles. Donna Gray strummed and she and Sandy Batten sang the Golfaround song as the group paraded their creations. The Edmonton group judged the Calgary hats and Deb Culhane was the winner. Calgary judged the Edmonton creations and awarded Patti Daye the winner, both received rounds of golf thanks to The Links at Spruce Grove and The Elks Club of Calgary.
There were many prizes handed out for winners, losers, skilled and not so skilled and the registration package included, you guessed it a hat, thanks to Ruby Johnson.
This was the first Edmonton Mystery Bus trip and if not for the hard work of Helen Dupuis it may not have happened. Thanks also to Paige Nelson who helped Helen with some of the chores and the rest of the team, Patti and Tammy who were a great support.
The golf club did a great job of organizing the tournament and the banquet was quite delicious, we even had desert Sonia , weren’t you impressed?
Our coach drivers, Peter and Erles, were very helpful and also did a great job, thank you National Coach Lines.
Last but not least who guessed Pine Hills and won the loot? There were three Calgary winners who split the pot, Melanie Shelley who donated her winning to charity, Marielle Galibois and Rose Mary Vandergrift. The Edmonton crew that guessed and shared the loot were Mary Ellen Haggerty, Peggy Hall, Diane Hansen & Jana Knowles.
“On behalf of the Edmonton busload of gals who participated in the Mystery Bus Tour, I would like to express our thanks to Helen and Paige for a great ride down and back to Rocky Mountain House and to Di and Kristy for a wonderful day of golf, camaraderie and to meeting up with our Calgary counterparts. This was long overdue as it has been a few years of trying to get this outing to come to fruition in Edmonton and despite the soggy back nine, I think I speak for all that we had a marvellous time. I hope this becomes a yearly event. It truly is a perfect example of what Golfaround is all about.” Lynn Stolarchuk Edmonton Day League
