The Spring Training in Palm Springs was again a success. I am pretty sure we all enjoyed our lessons and the golf games played at the Desert Princess Golf Resort even though some had some wind issues to deal with but all in all it is better than shoveling the white stuff. I know Di and Mary really enjoyed their lessons and would love to bring Troy home with them.
This trip down south lets us take our lessons before our season starts and in the warmth, which is great. We had beautiful weather this year, not too hot but comfortable to play and learn. Troy gives us all something specific to work on and by the end of our two sessions with him we can see and feel great improvement in our swings. We also learn how hit a draw, a fade because we want to and a low one when the wind comes into play.
Di needs to remember her swish and I need to remember no chicken wings.
Patty started our lessons this year with some great warm up exercises to do before a lesson and a game. She is determined to get us to master a consistent putting stroke and gave us tips on how to clear our mind and regroup when we got the “yips”. Again we learned how to master the swing to get out of the bunker and to use that soft touch to get over the sand and on to the green. I think we impressed her this year when she moved us to the front of the green and gave us bump and run shots to work on and boy were we good!!!
This year the dollar wasn’t the best so we weren’t the shopping manics as I know some have been in the past. We all had the opportunity to get in some additional golf after our lessons and opted to play both Escena and Indian Canyon. A couple of the gals went to the Ladies Professional Golf Association’s Kraft Nabisco Championship Golf Tournament (formerly the Dinah Shore Golf Championship which was held at Mission Hills Golf Club. They were inspired.
This year we made a reservation for the group at Francesco’s a new restaurant that we would highly recommend. This shopping center storefront restaurant has an array of tasty Italian and Persian dishes prepared by the mama. The service was friendly, efficient and they couldn’t be more accommodating. The family goes the extra mile to look after you. We also organized a group outing at a place called Woody’s and I think all who came had a nice time. The entertainment was great and the jokes had us laughing. Our friends Marlene & Ron from Calgary joined us…boy was Ron in his glory, all those women and him.
One of the participants Stella sent us some feedback that sums the experience up, thanks Stella. In addition to the following, Stella played at Olds when she came home and shaved 30 plus strokes off her score, WOW
“I just want to send out a quick thanks to you both. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to experience this trip. I had such an incredible time and learned so much. All the ladies are wonderful and I am so happy (and proud) to be part of such a great group. You both are superb and I am grateful to know you both. I am looking forward to many years with you two (and the rest of the Golfaround group).
Thank you for helping me find a new passion.”
