The season kicks off with the Orientation/Socials and the Beginner Golf Course Orientations. We tried a new approach and new location for the Orientation/Social in Edmonton this year. As many can attest to we were busting at the seams at Jagare Ridge and it was time to meet with the new members separately. Our numbers were the lowest ever and after digging a little it was probably a combination of location and having the existing membership come after the new member orientation. The Links at Spruce Grove did an excellent job and the banquet area is spacious, comfortable and supported all our needs.
In Calgary we went back to our old format and back to Cottonwood Golf and CC where it all started. It was great to be back on the island and using the buildings for our event. We had the largest numbers in a long time and going back to our old format allowed us to spend the time we need to with new members. The existing membership came at 7:00pm and joined the new members to welcome them. We always feel very special at Cottonwood, the staff did a fabulous job and Tiffany as always was very supportive.
The Beginner Golf course orientations were both very successful this year and we had great weather. Thank you to Dragons Head in Edmonton and Heritage Pointe in Calgary for supporting our program. Our goal is to make the new golfers feel comfortable and introduce them to things they need to know to take away the intimidation. Thanks to some awesome mentors who imparted valuable knowledge and making the ladies feel welcome. “this event provides new members with a much needed comfort zone to get out on the course and enjoy the Golfaround “experience” Christina
One of our new beginner members was quite nervous and not sure she should attend, we encouraged her and she really enjoyed. Tammy sent her the following to make her feel comfortable “I am one of the mentors. Thank you for contacting Kristy with your concerns and for letting us know how you are feeling. I want to reassure you that we’ve all been exactly where you are (I’m pretty sure I hit myself in the leg the first time I tried to swing a club – it’s OK, you can laugh!!). I’m really excited about getting to meet you and the other beginners, help you feel comfortable on the course and to share my love of golf with you… it’s going to be lots of fun!”
We hope that these two short outings in a non-competitive and fun atmosphere made them feel comfortable and encouraged them to come out and play. Paige
