Two Golfaround members Diane & Bev were the last 2 people to play Richmond Green. Beautiful day for golfing and if Diane had her wish she will have hit the last ball into the final tee. “Bev and I were proud that we had the last booked tee-time (6:45pm) Sept 2/19 for the Richmond Green course before it closed for good. Playing in the beginner league, we had golfed there a few times with Golfaround. Golfing was free that day, so apparently some golfers did a few rounds! So many people agreed they should keep the course open, but you know, of the 6 others I invited over the summer, only 1 had golfed there before. It was perfect for families and seniors and those who wanted to fit in a quick practice game in the morning and the price was good. While we were going to miss it, the cashier, a 31 year old female, mentioned she had been going there with her dad since she was 5. It was filled with good memories for her!
It was wonderful to golf with Bev when we were out with Golfaround, but also to meet new people! At Richmond Green, Mary and I found out we both wanted to brush up on our French language. So we would meet a few minutes prior to the game to chat. We still golf (speaking in French bien sur!) and did until the season was done. Bev and my friendship started in an interesting way. We both worked for TELUS in Calgary, but didn’t meet until a 3-year Telecom assignment close to Washington DC. Lots of get-togethers, a Canadian Club, and golf lessons with Mickie. But never golfing. On separate journeys, we both ended up back in Calgary. So glad to golf weekly with her through Golfaround!”
